Domo’s App Catalyst: Bridging AI Prompts to Enterprise Apps

SILICON SLOPES, Utah—Domo Inc. (Nasdaq: DOMO) unveiled App Catalyst on January 28, 2026, a feature within its AI and Data Products Platform that transforms natural language prompts into production-ready pro-code applications. The tool addresses a persistent challenge in enterprise AI: turning experimental ideas into compliant, scalable software without governance roadblocks. By embedding security and controls from the outset, App Catalyst aims to boost the success rate of AI projects, most of which fail to reach production.

Users describe desired apps in plain English, generating functional frameworks that integrate with data in platforms like Snowflake, Databricks, Google Cloud and Oracle. The resulting apps deploy via Domo App Studio, inheriting per-user permissions, row-level security and column masking. If data is unavailable, placeholder datasets enable immediate prototyping. TechTarget reports this differentiates App Catalyst from informal “vibe coding,” which produces fragile code lacking enterprise alignment.

Ben Schein, Domo’s chief analytics officer and SVP of product development, explained the motivation: “Vibe coding was all over the place, and our team was using it for fun side projects at home. But Domo always had the ability to create pro-code app components for use in low-code apps and dashboards. … So, it was natural to think we could lower that barrier.” The launch aligns with Domo’s post-ChatGPT push into AI since November 2022.

From Prompt to Production

App Catalyst targets technical users initially—product managers, developers and practitioners—for rapid visualization and stakeholder demos. Future expansions will empower business users to test hypotheses with less IT reliance. A live launch webinar on January 28 showcased its speed: prompt, build, deploy in minutes. StockTitan covered the Business Wire announcement, noting its role in scaling AI apps across data platforms.

The platform provides an end-to-end stack: database access, code generation and governance in one place. This contrasts with rivals requiring manual stitching of tools. Domo plans more AI features in early 2026, including custom agents and chatbots via expanded Model Context Protocol. Cloud integrations remain a focus, per Schein.

Enterprise adoption hinges on trust. App Catalyst applies data access and operational standards upfront, preventing compliance delays. It supports low-code enhancements with pro-code components, accelerating dashboards and apps.

Governance Baked In

Security features include automatic inheritance of controls, ensuring apps respect existing policies. This is critical as AI pilots often stall on retrofitted governance. Yahoo Finance Singapore highlighted how it maintains scalability for real-world use, signaling a shift in AI app building.

Domo’s evolution builds on its BI roots. Earlier, at Domopalooza 2025, it launched Agent Catalyst—a related toolkit for agentic AI. That tool follows a four-step process: select LLM, provide instructions, connect data, assign tools. It includes DomoGPT for configurable models and FileSets for unstructured data. While Agent Catalyst focuses on autonomous agents, App Catalyst targets broader pro-code apps. TechTarget noted Agent Catalyst’s availability, with semantic layers and builders forthcoming.

Customer endorsements for Domo’s AI stack underscore value. Rob Toro, managing partner at 7Rivers, praised Agent Catalyst: “It has led to improved business outcomes, such as increased operational efficiency, faster decision-making, and enhanced customer experience.” Jonathan Pratner, chief analytics officer at RXA @ One Magnify, added: “Agent Catalyst gives us the governance and security controls needed to confidently deploy AI at scale.” These apply to App Catalyst’s compliant foundation.

Competitive Edge in AI Stack

Domo positions App Catalyst amid rivals like Databricks, MongoDB and Teradata advancing AI tools. Its unified platform—analytics, data management, app building—offers advantage. ISG Research analyst Matt Aslett called Agent Catalyst competitive, combining analytics and AI development.

Financially, Domo reported Q3 fiscal 2026 revenue of $79.4 million, with subscription revenue at $71.9 million. Billings rose to $73.2 million, and subscription RPO grew 15% year-over-year. The company won 2025 CRN Products of the Year for BI and data analytics, citing Agent Catalyst’s governance.

On X, Domo promoted: “Today, we officially launched App Catalyst… Prompt it. Build it. Deploy it. This is how enterprise AI actually gets used.” Posts from AiThority and Lycanbull echoed the news, signaling industry buzz.

Path Forward for Enterprises

App Catalyst lowers barriers for innovation, enabling rapid prototyping to production. It empowers technical teams now, with business-user access planned. Domo’s focus on governance addresses why 80-90% of AI projects falter. As enterprises scale AI, tools like this could redefine app development, blending speed with security.

Future roadmaps include AI assistants and agent builders later in 2026. Domo’s partner ecosystem and native integrations support deployment into workflows. For insiders, this marks Domo’s maturation from BI vendor to full AI-data platform contender.
